I decided to finally start working on using up some of my beloved fabric scraps. I love scraps - I think they're pretty, like jewels :) I store mine in plastic salad containers, sorted by colour :D Here are the bags I've completed so far ...
Zipper bags from The Bin of Brown ;)
This is the back of the bags - most are pieced, and all are quilted :)
Playing around with my red and pink bins :)
Pieced backs :)
The embellishment on these is very simple - the first ones are quilted (on batting) with buttons added for bling. Then I started to use the blocks from 101 Crazy Quilt Blocks (Linda Causee) stitched onto muslin (no quilting) - on those, I stitched a row of decorative stitching onto the edge of each new piece as it was attached. Buttons were added to these as well as a quick little decoration, and to try to use up some of my extensive button stash :D Of course, I have enough zippers to do as many zipper pouches as I could sew in a lifetime ;) These bags are all being donated.
Happily, all 6 of them qualify for Bag It as they were made after the start of the event, so they've been posted
here :) That makes 8 bags posted so far :D
Helllooooo Babeeeee! I love these bags! I've been on a scrap-a-palooza for about 2 months. I love the owl zippy bag and the brown one with stripes! How are you doing otherwise? I miss you and wish you were here! We could do scrap-a-palooza together! Carol is making stuffed dragons. I have to post a photo for you. Love you!
ReplyDeleteHa! I'm doing the same thing today, and having a ball! I have a family of ten girls that I'd like to gift zippered bags to. There isn't a lot of money for extras in this 'little' family, so I try to show up with treats once in awhile. I'm heading down that way next month.
ReplyDeleteYour scrap pouches are great! I've decided that I am going to make a strip quilt with some of my scraps.
ReplyDeleteYou are such an inspiration! Your bags are lovely!
ReplyDeleteI make pouches but I hadn't thought of piecing them!!
Okay Sandra we are just too much alike! I started storing my scraps in salad containers by color, but had so many scraps that I had to make huge scrappy zippered bags using colors of scraps to store that color in those bags. I even wrote a tutorial for making the bags! https://patchouli-moon-studio.blogspot.com/2012/03/storing-fabric-scraps.html
ReplyDeleteThen when the scrap bags start getting full I make smaller scrappy bags. I line them and then have more new scraps from the lining fabrics and so the scraps never end!!! But I love using scraps too!
Seriously - you're at 8 bags already? I feel a challenge coming on.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it lovely to be able to create such neat bags from scraps? You are really rocking the Bag It challenge Sandra :)
ReplyDeleteThese are great, Sandra. To me, you will always be the bag it champion. I hope you win a prize :)
ReplyDeleteGreat start to BagIt and good going on using small scraps of fabric.
ReplyDeleteThanks to you and one other person just south of me, I spent two hours(!) sorting my overflowing scrapbin by colors into ziplocs. I started some qayg sides for bags. There was even some pendleton hidden underneath. Thanks for the ( kick in the butt) inspiration.

ReplyDeleteOooh, I just love all of them! I am inspired to use my scrap bin too!
