Pink Tease - The Finale :)

Inspired by Anne's version @ Play Crafts, I whipped up this doxy bag :D   When I saw Anne's finish I fell in love with the idea :)   I have to boast ... when stitching sections of foundation pieced blocks together, sometimes your sections don't match perfectly.  In this instance, with the blocks positioned in opposite directions and with the areas to match not easy to access because of batting, I managed to literally (I measured!) come within 1/8" of a perfect join :)  I'm posting this to May's New to Me linky party :)

As Anne mentions in her post, the block is from a book called It's Raining Cats & Dogs, by Janet Kime.  Bag #13 of 52 in 16 is now complete, and I believe that there shall be some frontback cat bags forthcoming from the Dungeon of Sandra :D

For kitty fans - this isn't my kitty, but (s)he's gorgeous :D  Turn down your volume before you click to play it - it's quite loud :)  I have this looped and running while I'm typing this post - it has me laughing my head off!  Meowing kitty inDEED!  ;)

Here's the bag I started on Monday, along with the rest of the sewn items for this owl gift.  Other than the owl stuffy, these are all new-to-me projects that I haven't made before. Bottom row - Oliver Owl drawstring bag by winterpeach on Etsy.  I increased the size by 50% - the original is really tiny.  Mine measures 8.5" in diameter, and 11" tall.  Middle row - owl stuffy by fluffandfuzz on Etsy - mine measures about 7"w x 6" tall (no resizing done).  Matching owl purse by fluffandfuzz - this pattern is included with the owl.  I resized it down to 80% of the original.  Mine measures 9.5"w x 8.5"t w/out strap, 12"t with strap. Hand puppets made with regular sheets of felt - they measure 5.5"w x 6.5"t (no resizing done) and the pattern is a freebie from Lia Griffith :)  (Don't ask me why the puppet pic background is yellow - all of these pictures were taken in about a 2 minute timeframe in my basement!)

QAYG D9P quilt finished a few weeks ago.  Backing is the same red as the binding.  This is for a little girl who is turning 3 in the summer :)

 And now a free bonus - for today only!!  It explains well why cats will one day rule the earth ;)  It auto plays music so if you're at work or the baby (or hubby) is sleeping, hit mute first :D

Happy birthday to our oldest son Nick - he turns 25 today - holy smokes!  We're taking him out for dinner tonight to his (and my) favourite restaurant - The Keg - and then he invited us over to his house for dessert.  He asked if I could make and bring the dessert, LOL.  Dunzo - I made pumpkin tiramisu, and Bailey's Irish Cream cheesecake - shhhhhhh don't tell him - he doesn't know what I'm bringing :)

Nick being a goof in 2005 :)  I'm starting to think our son is actually ... a GOOF!!!  ;)

Superhero capes!

I spotted this tutorial a while ago and thought it would be fun to make these for a couple of young kids I know :D The recipients are 3 -- I made these in the largest size (marked as 4T+).   I had a slender 4 (almost 5) year old try one on, and I thought it was too small for him, so I would use the large size for a kiddo up to about 3, and would increase the length and width for 4+.  The smaller size is probably good for a 2 year old (I haven't tried it though).

The little "blob" you see on each of them is a superhero button - the package didn't have any GIRL superhero designs (??!!) so the red cape has a red button that says BOOM! and the blue cape has a superhero character :) These are REALLY quick to make up - under 2 hours start to finish - and nothing difficult or fiddly. I got the superhero emblem/alphabet here (freebie), and did the initial in the recipient's name :) The blue solid fabric is a king size sheet that I got on clearance at Walmart for $5 - score!

A few more early August bib-ly finishes, for Blue Hills.  I'm going to see if they want some superhero capes too, when I can figure out some more accurate sizing for older kids :)

And on the sewing front, I have MASTERED the MESH :D I tried some mesh bags earlier this week and wasn't very successful - I found the mesh difficult to stitch until I learned to use a zigzag stitch to do the seams - after a bit of practice things went fine :) Of the 5 bags I made, 2 weren't as successful as I would like, so they're off in their own photo - not grouped with their more successful cousins, LOL!

Successful bags :D  The smaller ones are about 14X14", the larger one is about 13x15 :)

 I can't even watch this without tears running down my face from laughing so hard - he just can't give it up, but - well - it's a LIME! LOLOL!!

I recently challenged a bloggy friend to complete a project she wanted to do but hadn't gotten around to - a Kindle cover.  My part of the challenge would be to make a baby dress - something I've wanted to do for a while but, like her, hadn't gotten around to.  We had until this coming Friday to complete git 'r done.   Happily, within 3 days, we were both finished :D

I haven't tried mine on an actual human being (will see my model this coming Sunday) but Gong Gong the panda looks pretty springy in HIS dress!  The free tutorial came from here, and the instructions on lining the bodice came from here.  The dress tutorial has all the sizes from 12 months right up to size 14 --- I'll be making more of these (some for Blue Hills) :) 

Time for another challenge, I'd say!

Here's a UFO I forgot to photograph in February when it was completed.  It measures 36" x 36", and combined with the matching bibs, it used up all the bits and pieces I had left of those jungle fabrics (all from Joanns).  This set will go to the counselling centre :)
DS2 was holding it up for me outside yesterday, but did NOT want to be photographed - heaven forbid!  :D 

Here it is on my sheet of insulation design wall, with the patchworked scrappy use-up-the-bits-and-pieces bibs :)  Another completion on the UFO Apocolypse list, YAY!

I'm normally a cat lady ...

but I'm considering switching sides!
