How many of you drink out of canning jars?

Screenshot
I spotted a link to this page today - apparently people are drinking from canning jars - perhaps it's a regional thing? How many of you drink from jars on a regular - or even occasional - basis?  I had no idea that said jars and contents benefit from being kept cozy, and that the hands of the people drinking out of said jars need to be warmed as well :D

I think I'll stick with glasses and cups for drinking, and save my canning jars for food storage - but to each their own!  If you're going to drink from a jar, then it might as well be pretty, and keep your hand warm!  ;)

  2. I can imagine that canners have lots of jars in the cupboards and they use what is handy. Sometimes while I was teaching (science) we used the new beakers to drink out of.

  3. While I don't have a set;-}, I do have one or two canning jars in the glass collection. My son started using one that was laying about. It reminded me of the jam glasses we used to collect when I was a kid, so I kept the jar in the glass collection.

Funny you should ask this now cuz a friend just told me about a wedding she went to that incorporated canning jars for drinks. As you arrived to the "bring a dish" wedding reception, you were handed a canning jar to be used for your drinks for the day. I'm not THAT much of a drinking-from-jars person!

  4. I think it is a regional thing -- when I was a young girl, my old lady neighbor across the street always had us drink out of jars, cottage cheese containers, you name it. And I have also been at other people's houses (again, as a child, growing up in the south) where they gave us drinks in jars. But then again, I've also had jars for drinks in bars (Long Island Iced Tea comes to mind!) and it sort of feels like a Cracker Barrel type thing. :) But never ever did anyone worry about my hand being cold, or offer me a cozy. hahaha

  5. Oh it's a pattern from Stitch. I actually thought it was a cosy to stop you burning your hands as you were canning - ...

  8. Like the new look! I got a Lynchburg Lemonade in a "jar" once, but it had a handle on it like a mug. Crappy Tire stocks them too.
