Monday Makers! #19 :)

Gif shamelessly lifted from here :D
Merry (belated) Christmas to those who celebrate - mine was crappy and I was sick, so I'm glad it's over and done with :D  I did have my 3 guys here for the holiday so I'm VERY happy about that ... but I'm also glad now that hubby and DS2 have now gone back to work, and DS1 is back in his own house, LOL.  I'm not used to having them home so much!  I had a taste of what it's going to be like when hubby retires too soon in 8 years - I worry.  I WORRY!

Because I was so sick I haven't been able to sew since my last post, but I'm finally on the mend and was able to get downstairs today to start a couple of projects :)

This is some robot fabric I picked up @ Joanns ages ago - I had enough of it left to make 2 composition book covers :)

Look closely - can you see something sneaky?

Perhaps you can see it better from the back :D  The idea came to me while I was doing the quilting, and it worked out quite well!  It's deliberately wonky, not centered, not perfect - I wrote out the words with a Frixion pen and then stitched each one in about 2 minutes - no worry, no fussing, no stressing.  FUN!  And the part I like the best is that it's not really visible unless you happen to catch a glimpse and then look closer - I think the recipients will notice it after having the books for a while, and it'll be a cute surprise!

  1. I'm sorry to hear you were sick over Christmas, but pleased to hear you are on the mend. Just the other day I pinned a post about free motion sewing names. Did you practise first or just go for it? Yours looks great, but I think I'd need to practise lots to make mine at all legible.

  2. I'm glad you're feeling better now, and that you have the house back to yourself! I was cracking up with your "I WORRY" comment. Sometimes, my husband will come home earlier that normal and that is irritating, so I imagine that it would be worrisome to think of them being home all of the time :)

  3. Glad to hear that you are recovering Sandra, hope your men gave you lots of TLC over the holiday! Take it from me retirement won't be as bad as you fear, just make sure that your hubby has a time consuming hobby too :) (Golf is good, it takes up half a day!)

  4. Glad you are feeling better! Love the writing of Robot! What a clever idea! I know what you mean about retirement.....hahaha, we will need to find them really good hobbies to keep them busy! Hugs and happy New Year!

  5. Poor you! Sorry to hear that you were ill. Yet you still managed to get sewing in! You turning into the Stepford sewer/sewist.

I must be the exception cuz I love when Brian is home. So many to-do things that I can foist off on him! The kids, on the other hand,--much as I love seeing them--can wear me to a frazzle when they come back. I'm sure that's mostly my fault for trying to make sure their happy, happy, happy every single minute.

Love that writing idea! I'm gonna steal it, of course. I think it would be fun to write subtle hidden messages in quilts.

  8. Sorry to hear you were ill, Sandra. I hear you loud and clear about the joy of being home alone! Great to have family home but nice if they go home or even out sometimes! My DH has been working from home for two years now and I seriously think the only way I'll really accomplish anything much is to rent a studio :( I wish you a very Happy New Year! x
